Hey Everyone,
Our record "The Oncoming Swarm" is finally coming out December 23rd. I am very excited & proud of what Nate & I have accomplished since our move from Ohio. I have done all the artwork for TOS & I feel it couldn't be represented better. Especially for the early age of this band. We are turning 2 years old this February. I can't believe it's been 2 years honestly. I feel we both have come so far as musicians & people. We have helped each other grow into the musicians we have dreamed of being. There are not many drummers out there that can compare to Nate's stamina, playing capability, & overall the slew of styles he incorporates to this bands sound.
We have evolved so much since TOS especially with this new material. We have a new song that is close to a year old that was written after TOS that I know as "December" it ranges from the experimental side to the complete chaotic noise side of this band. We pushed the envelope on this one to be one the harshest noisiest musical pieces we could ever make but yet with rhythm. How that works I don't know.
The official 2nd new song that is yet untitled but we nicknamed it "Fuck Butter" is seeing the light of day. It has those most chaotic riffing & yet confusing parts to it but yet there is allot to hold on to. It's by far the most brutal & beautiful song of ours to date. I feel as far as my playing it's the most active playing with technique I have done in years. I have raised the bars for myself on this one.
We are still writing a 3rd new song that is by far one of the math time signature things with awkward timing I have ever done. But yet it still remains to be listener friendly with catchy sense to it. It also has a very doom like center piece with one of the most violent endings to a song that I have ever played. Its ugly there is nothing beautiful about it. I feel on our next record that this will be our last track. Yes it's that brutal. But yet I am not satisfied. Not even close actually.
I've been writing new material lately that I feel is up to par with everything were doing now. The best way I can describe it is take all the most brutal Imbroglio riffs and put them on steroids & add some new flavors.
Writing is a challenging thing for us. But yet we write more songs that get thrown away than we keep. We are very judgmental on our material & we are our worst critics. We bring nothing but the best of our capabilities to the table. Writing over 200 riffs for this band I have only kept less than 30 of them. We don't even really play old material anymore besides our myspace hits "Suicide Pact" & "Excavating the Killing Fields". Even then we are tired of playing those. But we still deliver those songs live the way the diserve to be played.
I don't know how bands who have been together for over 10-20 years still keep playing some of the material that they have written over 10 years ago. But they do because it's timeless. I feel those songs represent the birth of the band. But it does feel good to play those songs live. I could play them in my sleep & so could Nate.
That's enough rambling for the night good night everyone.
